Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 challenge (part 2)

Day 4: 18 July 2015

I didn’t used my computer to much today, because I was outside most of the time. I used some Photoshop, and it works flawlessly. I wrote some posts, and browsed the web, update my social media and so on.The Toughbook does everything what I want it to do, but I miss my MacBook though. The Toughbook is just not as fast as my MacBook.

Day 5: 19 July 2015:

I’ve started a project today on Photoshop, so that’s what I’ve been doing today. It handles Photoshop really well, and I was able to complete all the tasks that I’ve needed to do. My wrists are starting to hurt though, the keyboard types really nice but the height of the machine is just so awkward, especially if your used to typing on a thinner machine, but I still have 2 days to go so I think this isn’t going to be the biggest problem.

Day 6: 20 July 2015:

I’ve wrote a whole lot of posts, and I’ve wrote down some idea’s for the future. I want to expand this blog in the future, and I wrote some ideas for that on the Toughbook. I continued my Photoshop project and it ran without a hiccup. I still can’t figure out the sound problem though, but that doesn’t matter so much because I doubt that it will run YouTube video’s at HD resolution. For so far the computer is doing its tasks, and I didn’t have a problem at all.

Day 7: 21 July 2015:

I finished my Photoshop project today, and did some added some idea’s to the list for the blog, and after this I shut off the Toughbook, closed the lid and put it away in my closet. I was really excited using my MacBook again. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Toughbook and it did everything I asked for but it was a bit slow compared with my MacBook. It was just so nice using OS X again, I’m not saying Windows XP is terrible or anything but when you’ve worked with an operating system constantly for over 2 years and you have to use something different for just one week its just so nice getting back to your old and trusted OS. It was a fun challenge to do, and I will so something like this in the future. I was thinking about working with OS X Leopard, or Tiger for a week, or using Windows 7 for a week.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 challenge (part 1)

Day 1: 15 July 2015:

The first day working with the Toughbook wasn’t to bad actually. I thought that I needed to download a lot of different applications to have everything working properly but it seems that everything is still supported for Windows XP and considering that Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April 2014 it really surprised me that I could download all my needed applications any trouble. I still need to download Photoshop CS3 and I’m wondering how this is going to run. It still runs fine on my Mac Mini G4 so I think I don’t have a lot of trouble with Photoshop. Browsing the web is a bit slow at sometimes, but it could be worse. As said earlier, a lot of applications still support Windows XP, and downloading and installing Mozilla Firefox wasn’t any problem at all. All of the pages seemed to load without a problem, and there weren’t any problems at all. Even Twitter and Facebook worked fine. I’m am really positive about the performance of this computer for now.

Day 2: 16 July 2015

I did some serious work today, I wrote out some possible future plans for the blog and I wrote some posts, and it worked fine, starting Word takes a bit time, but I can live with that. Doing some research online works perfect. I have 2 internet access points one having 5G capability and I was very surprised seeing that my old Toughbook could connect to that 5G network. Its so much faster then my regular network. So when I connected to my 5G network internetbrowsing worked really smooth, even faster as before. When I had to travel to the other part of the city I tried to put it in my bag in to fit, I even had some space for boxed juice and some snacks. My bag was a bit heavy compared when I’m traveling with my MacBook but that’s not a big deal because I’m already used to carrying 20 pounds of textbooks around every schoolday. The Toughbook worked the whole day without charging. I’ve got around 7 hours of batterylife out of it which is great in my opinion because now I know I can safely work all day without looking at the battery percentage. So actually, there weren’t any problems at all today.

Day 3: 17 July 2015

I was very busy today with writing posts, and editing some pictures. Adobe Photoshop CS3 works flawlessly, and it is not very different compared with Photoshop CS5. I don’t miss the special options because I use the standard options mainly. I still got a problem with the sound driver, and I really don’t know how to fix this, so playing some old games isn’t an option. I thought I was really going to miss my MacBook, but this isn’t the case at all. I really love my MacBook but its nice to work with something else. I really want the sound to work, so I hope I can figure it out soon but until that time, I have to use my MacBook for the tasks that require sound.

A week with my Toughbook CF-29

Hello everybody and welcome at a very special post actually. I am going to do a challenge. I am going to work 7 days with my Panasonic Toughbook CF-29. Unfortunately I couldn't get the sound driver to work, so for watching YouTube video's, listening to music and watching movies I'll have to use my MacBook. My Toughbook is running an 1.6 GHz Intel Centrino processor and 1.5 GB RAM. So just to make clear, I am going to do all of my work on a Panasonic Toughbook running Windows XP. I will write about everyday in a Word document, and once I'm done with the week I will copy it and post it.

Thanks for reading and until the next one.

My favorite tech products

Hello and welcome at another post! Like everyone of you visiting this blog, I love tech. So in this post I will cover some of my favorite tech products ever made. So enjoy!

My most favorite product is the Apple PowerBook G4, and the 12 inch model in particular. I love the design, and how the keyboard doesn't have any bezels at all. I just think the design is really cool, and I always had and still have a soft spot for PowerPC computers. I don't own one myself, or even saw one in real life, but just from seeing video's and viewing pictures of it I know that it definitely deserves the number one spot on my favorite tech list. The computer isn't very useful, and its even kinda slow but I saw a video on YouTube, and that guy uses the laptop as his day to day computer and it still suits his needs. He's a student and he takes his notes on it in class, and does his homework on it. I'm still looking for a nice deal on eBay to buy one, so when I've ordered the laptop you guys can surely expect a review.

The Sony Playstation 3 is still my favorite game console, and even I do own the Playstation 4 I find myself playing on the PS3 a lot more. I own a lot of games for the console, and I've been collecting games for it since 2009 and I own more than 150 titles, and I played trough most of them. Don't get me wrong, I love the Playstation 4 as well, and the graphics are awesome on this machine, but I think that Sony made some real bad moves with the PS4. Paying 50 euro's a year for playing online just seems like bullshit in my eyes. Playing online with the PS3 was free, and it still is. And this is the reason why I play GTA, Call of Duty and Battlefield still on my old reliable Playstation 3.

I own a Panasonic CF-29 and all tough it shipped with Windows XP, its not even that slow for the usual tasks like e-mailing, web browsing and watching Youtube videos. My dad bought it for me for just a 150 euro's. Some of you probably think: 150 euro's for a Windows XP machine, why? Well for the people that don't know it yet, Toughbooks are fully rugged, and fan less, the hard drive is placed in a special caddy with heating elements in it, to power the hard drive up in extremely cold climates. Thats one of the reasons why they are so expensive. My family owns a farm in Hungary, just a holiday house actually, but its very dusty out there and in the summer its also very hot. So if I want to work outside it is very risky to use my MacBook because of all the sand and dust, and the Panasonic Toughbook is just perfect for this environment. I really love them because they are indestructible beasts, you can kick them, jump on them or drive it over with your car in it still works.

So these products are one of my favorite tech products. I hope you liked this post, and let me know in the comments which are your favorite tech products. Until the next one.

A blast from the past: OS X Tiger

Hello everybody and welcome,

Today I want to talk about OS X Tiger. I hear you think: Tiger? Yes Tiger, its very outdated but if something is outdates it doesn't means its useless right? So lets find out in this post.

OS X 10.4.11 is an old operating system, but it is the most solid operating system I've ever worked with, and I used for a long time. I loved Tiger so much. It runs better then Lion in my opinion. I don't know why but it seems to run a lot faster. And the funny thing is, my MacBook has a SSD, and the Mac mini where I used Tiger on had a regular hard drive.

Lets move on to Yosemite real quick, not for a ''blast from the past'' review, but from the point of design. If you're a Mac user and you've used Tiger, then Leopard, then Snow Leopard, then Lion… You'll get my point, then the dock looks very familiar to you. I don't know how to put it but the dock isn't displayed in 3D anymore. Its just flat, just like in OS X 10.4.11 A.K.A Tiger.

But lets get over to the real point of this post, is it still useable? Well its not really unusable, but you its going to take some time to get everything running so you can use Tiger. For the most apps it doesn't matter if your Mac is Intel or PPC based, but the newest and most secure apps won't work on Tiger anymore. Safari is very outdated, and won't load most of the websites properly. So if you want to browse the web, you will need to search for a different browser which is still supported.

You can easily process word documents, spreadsheets and so on. I know it still supports Microsoft Office 2008 and iLife 09 so in those perspectives its still a very useful operating system. Photo and video editing is a different story on the other hand, there are some applications out there, but most of them are outdated. My dad used Photoshop CS3 for years on Tiger, so I know thats supported but if you don't mind working with outdated software it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually to make a long story short, Tiger is a very solid operating system, and I love it. But you have to be realistic here. Its very old, and for some people this isn't a problem, but if your young, and just want to buy your first Mac, and if that Mac runs Tiger, buy another install disk for Snow Leopard or higher, because most apps are still supported for Snow Leopard. And just some advice. Tiger mostly comes with PowerPC Mac's. If you want to use your computer on a day to day basis, you'll better keep looking for an Intel Mac or pc.

So I hope some of you learned for this, and the most of you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading and until the next one.

Just some rambling

Hello everybody and welcome at another fresh post at the Apple Macintosh Blog.

I was watching some videos on YouTube and as I was searching for some fun video's I stumbled upon a video called: Can your Mac do this or something like that. And this guy was just telling arguments that aren't even true. So I'm going to write two of his arguments down here, and after that I'm going to tell you guys the reason why I think these are just simply not true.

1: Can your Mac look as cool as this pc with a custom case and awesome lighting…
2: I bet your Mac doesn't boot up in 18 seconds…

Well to start with I think Mac's do look cool the way they are. I like a simple computer, I've got a pc, and I bought a simple case for it just because I don't want all the lights distracting me when I'm working. And I was literally laughing my ass of when he said: Can your Mac boot up in 18 seconds, I bet it can't. Well my MacBook boots up in 14 to 16 seconds, from pressing the power button until my desktop. So I commented on the video that he should do research first before he makes a stupid video on YouTube thinking his computer is the most powerful computer on the world. This is not a hate post to his pc, actually any pc, and his channel. But it irritates me when people upload videos without knowing if his arguments are facts or really things what he thinks.

Second, I want to post more often on the blog, and I'm starting today. Don't expect a post everyday, but once or twice a week. The reason why I wasn't posting the last 2 months are because I had to study very hard for my tests, but I passed them all, so I can blog more often.

As always, thanks for reading! And until the next one.
